During the Fall marching season, the Percussion is split into two groups: Battery and Front Ensemble (or "Pit"). Both groups perform at all contests and shows with the band. Both groups are composed of students from all grade levels. The Battery consists of players who march with their instruments on the field (snare drums, tenors, and bass drums). The Front Ensemble consists of players on instruments too large for marching (marimbas, vibraphones, bells, large drums, and other percussion instruments).

During the Spring semester, the percussionists are given specific instructional time to improve their skills and pedagogy. They also have opportunities to participate in percussion ensembles, Indoor Percussion, and Concert Ensembles. The Indoor Percussion ensemble combines elements of music performance, marching, and theater. LEE usually participates in the Indoor Percussion competition season every other year. Rehearsals begin at the conclusion of Marching season. The competition season is February through April and involves some travel.
